7,500 HKD to the Chinese New Year Staff Dinner, which is a wonderful event for our hard-working staff.
50,000 HKD allocation to each division in support of the school’s Student Learning Results. Events supported included:
Allocations to Divisions:
The Enigma Project – James Grimes brought math to life for high school students as our guest speaker from the University of Cambridge.
New Picnic Tables – The PFO partnered with the Booster Club to fund new picnic tables for the HS campus.
Taylor Mali – An incredible poet, author, and vocal advocate of the nobility of teaching worked with Middle School students and teachers for 3 days.
Diane Frankenstein – A literacy consultant and author spoke to Upper Primary parents about the importance of book selection and reading with your children.
Upper Primary Library Parent Section - Amy Robinson, the Upper Librarian, purchased more than 80 new books for the parent section of the UP library.
Kumi Masunaga – A drummer and performer from Rhythm of Life visited the Lower Primary to participate in Global Arts week, give lessons on African drumming and lead the International Day Parade.
Mark Levitt – An amazing story teller captured the lower primary student’s attention for 3 days in September.
Merit Scholarships - Each year, the PFO awards 4 scholarships to graduating seniors in the total amount of 46,800 HKD.
Teacher Appreciation Week - During the first week in May, the PFO spends the entire week “appreciating” all faculty and staff. There are special treats everyday and a delicious lunch for everyone at the end of the week.
Volunteer programs - Middle and High School students are encouraged to volunteer their time for PFO sponsored events. In return, the Middle School students win pizza parties, and the High School students earn money towards their clubs, charities or sports teams. This past year more than $30,000 went to those groups.
Chinese New Year Festival - The PFO supports the annual Chinese New Year Festival with funding, as well as with organizational assistance, and was proud to bring back the ever popular “face changing lady,” Ms. Anna Chau, from Fantastic Art Production Limited. The CNY assemblies are highly popular in all divisions.
Back to School Nights - The PFO provides refreshments for all of the Back to School nights in each division. We know that often parents come directly from work for these evening sessions, and it is our pleasure to offer refreshments.
Parent to Parent - We are extremely proud of our Parent to Parent program, which matches “old” parents with “new” parents in order to help with the transition to Hong Kong, as well as HKIS. We host a breakfast for all new parents, where we introduce new parents to the community at large. This highly popular breakfast provides a wealth of information for our new families.
The PFO is proud and excited to have had such a productive year, and we look forward to the next school year. You can learn more about us at: http://dnet.hkis.edu.hk/pfo.
Thank you for your support.
