Technology Fee
In the 2010-2011 school-year, HKIS commenced its 1:1 laptop program for Grades 5-12. This program involves the addition of a technology fee from students in grades 5 through to 12 once every three years. The technology fee covers the full cost of a Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz computer with 4GB of RAM and 250GB hard-drive, plus site-licensed software specifically selected to support the HKIS educational program. School Uniform
Elementary school students wear uniforms which consist of navy blue bottoms (blue shorts, blue jeans, a blue skirt, etc.) and red or white collared shirt with the HKIS emblem. Shorts and shirts can be purchased from the Dragon Shop (campus store, opposite HS Cafeteria), or you can provide your own and purchase from either campus a sew-on HKIS emblem. Most shoes are fine. However, for safety purposes, clogs and sandals without a heel strap, and shoes with roller-wheels are not allowed. It is recommended that your child wears athletic shoes for designated PE days.
Lunch Program
A catering company provides a balanced hot lunch program. Payment by cash and Octopus Card are accepted. In all cases, students are also welcome to bring their own lunch.
3/4 Combination Class
HKIS offers two very successful educational settings for third and fourth grade students - The Single Grade Class and The Combination Class:
The Single Grade Class is made up of students who are all the same grade level. That is, in the Single Grade Three Class, all students are third graders. In the Single Grade Four Class, all students are fourth graders.
In the Combination Class, half of the students are in grade three and half of the students are in grade four. Students who enter the Combination Class as third graders typically stay with the same teacher for two years and approximately one-half of their student peer group stays together for the two year cycle. We have offered the Combination Class setting for over twenty-five years.

Parent Faculty Organization (PFO)
All parents of newly admitted students will be contacted by a Parent-2-Parent Mentor, who has been chosen based on your student's grade level needs to answer questions about HKIS and, if needed, living in Hong Kong. You will also be invited to the New Parent Coffee sponsored by Parent-2-Parent Mentor Program, a committee of our Parent Faculty Organization (PFO). The PFO will be contacting you directly to advise the date and venue. You won’t want to miss it!
