HKIS believes involvement in clubs and activities is an integral aspect of the educational experience of all High School students. Research has shown participation in clubs or activities enhances intellectual, social and personal growth of high school students. Therefore, HKIS offers many opportunities for students to participate in a variety of clubs and activities during school and after school hours. These opportunities encourage and enable students to interact and build relationships with other students, faculty and the community outside of the academic setting.
Membership and Participation
Students should be selective when considering which activity to participate in, based on interest, time commitments and dedication to its cause. While there is great temptation to “do it all,” it is strongly recommended that students choose one or two clubs or activities in which to become members. Students should remain involved with the club or activities throughout the four years of high school, demonstrating dedication, development of personal interest, growth as a participant and consistent contribution to a club or activity.
Universities take notice of students who are able to display long-term commitments to clubs and activities.

Leadership Opportunity
Those students who have demonstrated dedication and passion to a club or activity have the opportunity to apply for a leadership position, in which they will learn to organize meetings, events, and fundraisers, and work closely with faculty members, fellow students and the community. This will take a lot of time and initiative on the part of the student and must be carefully thought through before dedicating to a leadership position.
It is strongly recommended that students choose only one club or activity to lead. Balancing academics, extracurricular activities and personal time with family and friends is something that good leadership should model.
Student Leadership Expectations
Student leaders are expected to model personal character, service to others and excellent behavior for their peers and the HKIS community.
Therefore, elected or appointed students in the National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors and the Student Senate, as well as club leaders and team captains, are expected to uphold the highest standards of character, service and behavior. In particular, positions of student leadership demonstrate strong character, integrity, personal ethics, service and a reflection of HKIS’s Mission.
