The Lower Primary School offers a variety of programs in addition to the academic curriculum.



 
Activities are for one hour between 2:50 and 3:50 pm, (Allowing students to catch the 4:00 pm bus), and organized in three, six-week sessions, during the school year.  Students are asked to focus on just one activity per session.

Activities include: - arts & crafts, roller-skating, hiking, cooking, bike riding, ball games, board games

A Mandarin program is also available after school for students in R1 through to Grade 2.

Signing up to a program is done electronically, to enable students and parents to select programs together.
 
There are two after-school swimming sessions for Grades One and Two.  Classes are for 45 minutes, between 3:00 and 3:45 pm, (Allowing students to catch the 4:00 pm bus), last for 7 weeks and begin in September and April.

The program is taught by qualified swimming instructors and caters for all abilities from non-swimmer to swim-team level.
 

The Community & Summer Programs Centre on Tai Tam campus offers additional programs:

  1. Community Sports Programs - HKIS coordinated programs incorporating volunteer parent coaches. The program includes soccer, baseball and basketball.
  2. Community Select Teams - Teams include Gym Danny (gymnastics), Stingrays (swimming), Tai Tam Titans (baseball), and Tai Tam Tigers (soccer).  All prospective players have to go through a process of selection trials.
  3. Extra-Curricular Activities - Programs coordinated by HKIS CAC with external companies, who provide services on a yearly basis. Activities include: dance, rock-climbing, youth theater, roller-hockey, tennis, and many others.
  4. Community Clubs - Cub and Girl Scouts are run with the objective of positively influencing character development, sportsmanship, and citizenship, while developing new skills and ‘doing one’s best’.

Student Medical Insurance 
Please note that HKIS expects all of its students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan.  HKIS does not provide medical coverage for students when accidents occur during school-related activities.

If your child is not covered by health insurance, please e-mail Joanna Wilson at  jwilson@hkis.edu.hk in the Business Office for an insurance company referral.
