Through Grades 6,7 and 8 students receive instruction and guidance across the Core Subjects and Electives to enable them to grow in academic excellence. The effective use of standards and feedback enables students to clearly identify necessary future activity levels, and amplifies the enjoyment of learning and achievement.

Students and teachers work together to explore the scientific world around us.

Students use technology to help the learning process.

Searching for information, submitting homework, designing visual materials, communicating with faculty and friends by means of the latest technology, are actively supported throughout the school.

Music helps to make friends and provides a different approach to learning.

Students continue their learning about Christianity through the Grades by examining the Old Testament, and interpretations of the Scriptures.  In Grades 7 and 8 students extend their understanding of Christianity and also explore Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.

As they progress through the Middle School grades, our students are asked to extend themselves more and push the boundaries of their experience and knowledge.  Students exhibit their self-motivation in PEAK activities, drama, music and sport, in addition to their ‘core’ studies.

Learning to play a musical instrument and become a member of the orchestra or band is just as clear a demonstration of self-motivation, as is achieving high marks in examinations.

Expressing ideas through all forms of art, develops imagination and new ways of communication.

Our students are actively involved in giving back to society. We have the Matrix Club for students, which focuses on service after school; and connections with organizations where students can gain ‘hands-on’ experience helping with community projects. Each PEAK trip has significant elements where students contribute to the local community they are visiting.

HKIS Chinese Studies program offers 13 years of Chinese language and culture learning oportunity.  The program fully embraces the differential needs of a diverse range of students and their linguistic and cultural backgrounds.  Presently 2,200 out of our 2,600 plus student body are taking various courses on Chinese language and culture, which is an important part of our school curriculum.

By the time students reach Middle School they have gained an understanding of China, its language, history, geography, philosophy and customs.  In Grades 6 to 8, students gain a more ‘hands on’ experience through PEAK trips, and other excursions including Band visits to perform in China.
