Hi, I’m Rebecca Yim and I am a recent graduate from HKIS’ Class of 2008.

When I look back at my seven years in HKIS, I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this community.

As graduation approaches, a common question that arises in many seniors’ minds around the last two months of High School is “What legacies have I planted in HKIS?”  The HKIS experience has given me many opportunities to cultivate my passions academically and through other means such as clubs and sports.  My own answer to this question is not exactly quantifiable – it is simply a fuzzy feeling of satisfaction.  I believe my legacy lies in the people who have worked with me to build several clubs and teams.

Clubs and teams that I joined or founded in High School include the HKIS Roots and Shoots Club, Service on Saturday at the Red Cross Princess Alexandra Residential School, Future Problem Solving, and the Squash team.

HKIS Roots and Shoots is an environmental club that takes action to protect human-nature sustainability.  SOS Red Cross is a monthly weekend trip to the residential school where we play games or take physically or mentally challenged children on field trips.  Future Problem Solving is where our teams of four identify problems, solutions, and action plans to given future scenarios.

As I leave the clubs and teams in the hands of the younger members, I am confident that the dedication and knowledge or skills we have nurtured together over the years will help them continue to make a positive impact on HKIS and beyond.

I have also been lucky to participate in other extracurricular events such as the High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the Global Issues Network Conference in Beijing.  These events were both mind-stimulating and lots of fun.  Besides many extracurricular experiences, HKIS has also helped me find my love for Biology through class.  I will be taking this interest with me to university and my aspired career to be a doctor.

I truly believe the time I spent at HKIS has been invaluable.
