Club Purpose/Description:

The SDLT consists of a group of empowered students who assist the school with technology use in a modern school environment.

High School:

In the High School the SDLT has two components: SysOps and Digital Ambassadors.

SysOps:

Student members of SysOps have an interest in programming and web design, and SysOps provides an outlet for them to explore tools and develop their skills in an authentic environment. Among the diverse tasks SysOps attends to are to provide maintenance and updates to the student portal of DragonNet, helping with programming and design of other web-based projects, and creating and operating the web presence for the Holiday Basketball Tournament. SysOps also provides technical support for school-wide events with photography and web services.

Digital Ambassadors:

The DA students have a strong role in affecting the technology culture of HKIS. They run after-school training sessions, providing instruction for user-based tasks, such as folder maintenance, making podcasts or backing up files, and run a student help desk in the Information Commons for drop-in assistance. They also serve as technical assistants and troubleshooters to teachers and students in classes, and are instrumental in modeling responsible cybercitizenship at HKIS.

Expectations of Members/Commitments:

It is expected that all members will attend their respective meetings. Both the DA and SysOps students will identify and select a core leadership group, and all members will be responsive to the guidance of their leadership group as well as to the faculty advisors. Participation in the SDLT, especially SysOps, often will involve access to parts of the electronic resources of HKIS beyond those available to the general student population; SDLT members will not abuse this privilege in any manner and must model responsible cybercitizenship.
