What is the HKIS ASA Swim Academy?

HKIS’s Co-Curricular program, called ASA Swim Academy, offers a variety of aquatic activities  after school and on Saturdays including learn-to-swim lessons, learn-to-train sessions, water polo, and Junior Lifeguarding. All HKIS Primary and Middle School students, regardless of age, grade, or swimming ability are welcome! To learn more about the program levels please refer to the HKIS PE Aquatics page.

How can I register my child for ASA Swim Academy lessons?

The SchoolsBuddy platform is used for registration and payment for HKIS Aquatics Academy, along with other HKIS activity programs. Families are required to set up a SchoolsBuddy account prior to registration day and become familiar with the platform. For help setting up an account contact help@hkis.edu.hk.

How do I pay for ASA Swim Academy lessons?

Payment by credit card is expected in order to complete registration on the Schoolsbuddy platform. Prior to registration, read the Terms and Conditions section in the Registraiton Essentials.

What is the cost of ASA Swim Academy lessons?

HKD 225 per lesson. The total will be calculated based on the total number of lessons. For example, if the Monday groups are scheduled to have a total of 14 lessons during the Term. The course cost for students registered on Mondays would be HKD 3,150. All groups are scheduled to meet on a weekly basis.

What are the dates of Term 1 ASA Swim Academy?

Weekday lessons: September 1, 2022 - January 20, 2023
Saturday lessons: September 3 to December 10, 2022.

What are the dates of Term 2 ASA Swim Academy?

Weekday lessons: February 1, 2023 - May 31, 2023
Saturday lessons: February 4, 2023 - May 27, 2023

Where do ASA Swim Academy lessons take place?

At the Repulse Bay campus’s state-of-the-art 25-meter swimming pool. The pool’s water and air are heated to 29-30C and the depth is adjustable to meet the needs of all our learners.

How do I check my child’s swimming level?

Swimming levels can be checked on the SchoolsBuddy platform. See this short tutorial video explaining how to check your child’s swimming level.

Will I get a refund if my child’s plans change?
I would like to know Terms and Conditions before I register.

• By registering, you agree that your child participates at their own risk. HKIS, their employees, and coaches shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever arising from personal injury, illness or loss/damage to property.

• Students will not be accepted into a class until the registration fee has been paid or credit applied.

• Once registration is finalized, fees are immediately due and payable. 

• All fees are non-refundable and no credit will be offered for withdrawals once students are accepted into a class.

• No credits or makeup classes will be provided should lessons be canceled because of inclement weather, school closures or other Department of Education / Government directives relating to after school activities, unless it be a special case approved by the Head of the School.

• By registering and/or attending a class, you agree that your child will abide by the above rules and regulations and any other procedures and protocols in place at any given time as communicated. By taking part in any of our classes you are agreeing that your child is fit to participate and understand that sport carries inherent risk of physical injury.

Can non-HKIS students register for the ASA Swim Academy?

Due to high demand and popularity, lessons are only offered to students of HKIS.

My family is new to HKIS. How do I register my child for ASA Swim Academy lessons when s/he doesn’t have an HKIS swimming level?

The ASA Swim Program offers a variety of aquatic activities including learn-to-swim lessons, learn-to-train sessions, water polo, and Junior Lifeguarding. All HKIS Primary School students, regardless of age, grade, or swimming ability are welcome!

R1 and R2 new and returning students will be able to register without any prior screening or testing. Please note, ASA Swim lessons for R1 students will be offered in Term 2 at the 9 am time slot only.

Grades 1 to 5 new and returning students who don’t have a swimming level will require one to register for a ASA Swim program. Your child will need a screening with us to determine swimming ability, water confidence, and hence the appropriate group to join. 

Screening Information

Screening sessions will take place on Monday, December 12 at 3 pm, for Grade 1 & 2 students and on Tuesday, December 13 at 3 pm Grades 3-5. Please contact swim@hkis.edu to register for the screening. Only registered students will be accepted for screening. Due to the popularity of the program, only 24 students will be accepted for screening sessions on a first-come, first-served basis. The Aquatics Department will send registered families more details regarding screening two days prior to screening day.

The screening will take 15-20 minutes in the water, however, please allocate 60 minutes for the whole process. Aquatics staff will meet you and your child at the Aquatics Center at LP Campus at the designated time and take your child to the pool. As soon as your child’s swimming level is identified and entered into the registration system, you will be able to register. Your child will need swimming gear: a swimsuit, cap, towel, and goggles.

Please note - screening is only required if you want to register for the Term 2 ASA Swim session.

RETURNING FAMILIES INFORMATION

My child is a returning student, but doesn’t have a swimming level. How do I register him/her for Aquatics Academy lessons? 

In order to register for Aquatics Academy programming all participants need a swimming level, as groups are based on swimming abilities. Returning students who have no level need to attend a screening organized by the Aquatics Department. This screening is organized to determine swimming ability and water confidence, thereby ensuring students are placed in an appropriate group. Registration for screening will be organized using the SchoolsBuddy (SB) registration platform. Please use your SB account in order to register. Only registered students will be accepted for screening.

 

R1 AND R2 INFORMATION

What lessons does the Aquatics Academy offer for R1 and R2?

New and returning R2 students will be able to register for Aquatics Academy swim lessons without any prior screening or testing. Lessons will be offered on Saturday mornings. Groups are based on students' swimming abilities and water confidence.

The Aquatics Department follows a learn-to-swim program specifically designed for young learners. Games and playful activities are integrated into the program along with a wide range of fundamental swimming skills. Lessons for R1 students will be offered also on Saturdays during Term 2.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS INFORMATION

Aquatics Academy offers a Learn To Train group on Mondays for Grade 6 and 7 students, Water Polo for G6-8 on Wednesdays and Synchronized Swimming (or Artistic Swimming) group for G6-8 on Fridays. Junior Lifeguarding group will be offered for G6-8 during Term 2. Middel School students need to make their own way to the Repulse Bay campus for the 4pm classes. When is my child’s class scheduled to swim as part of their curricular program in the 2022-2023 school year?

All Primary students take swim lessons as part of the HKIS curriculum PE program at some point of the school year. Below is a general schedule to help parents to try and avoid overlap.
Your classroom teacher will provide you with more specific dates.

R1: October- November 2022

R2: August - September 2022

Grade 1: February - June 2023

Grade 2: February - June 2023

Grade 3: November 2022 - February 2023

Grade 4: February - June 2023

Grade 5: August - November 2022

How can I register my child for Aquatics Academy swim lessons?

After School Care will take place from 3:00pm - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday in the Upper Primary Dining Hall (4th Floor). Students will be directed to their respective activities 5 minutes before they are scheduled to begin. All Grade 3-5 students registered in a 4:00pm Activity will automatically be registered for ASC.
