As defined in the PFO’s Constitution & By-Laws, its purposes are:

to support HKIS in its efforts to provide quality education.

to build a sense of community among students, parents and faculty.

to provide a forum for the expression of views and ideas that are school wide in both concern and interest to HKIS stakeholders. (Views and ideas for the particular divisions will be expressed through the use of the PAGs.)

A

You don’t have to apply to become a member. You are automatically a member once your child is enrolled in the school.

Q

What are the events run by the PFO?

A

The PFO runs four major* events, and many other specific events, each calendar year (not including approved divisional events throughout the year):
New Parent Events (August & January)
Volunteer Information Coffee (September)
Pumpkin Festival* (October)
Lunar New Year Assembly* (January/February)
World’s Fair* (March/April)
Lower Primary Book Fair* (First Term)

Q

How are the events run?

A

Initially, the the Board seek parents for all positions of each event. For example, the Pumpkin Festival requires volunteers for Bake Sale, Games, Student Performances, Publicity and Book Sale. A

The PFO raises funds through sponsorships, donations, and admission tickets of its festivals and programs.

Q

You can also reach any of the Board members via email.

Q

A

The 2013-14 Directory was the last physical printing. As HKIS moves towards an online directory via PowerSchool, we encourage you to use the schoolwide and divisional contact information listed in the both the large and small PFO School Calendars.

Q

How does the PFO function?

A

The PFO is registered with the Hong Kong Government Registrar of Societies as a non-commercial, non-sectarian and non-partisan organization. It is governed by a Constitution and due process as mentioned therein. There are elected and appointed board positions. The Board meets each month.(dates are on the site) These dates are announced well in advance, and a secretary records minutes of the meetings. Ongoing projects are reviewed and upcoming events are discussed. Allocation proposals are discussed, budgets are sanctioned and financial statements are passed after due process, as per the PFO Constitution.

The PFO reaches out to parents through parent coffees twice every year. You can raise concerns, interact with other parents and teachers and get to know the developments in your child’s class/grade/division. Parents find this an extremely useful forum. New parents who have moved into Hong Kong also find this a good point to begin networking and making friends.

The PFO builds the HKIS Community through a variety of events each year.  From helping to integrate new families to parent coffees and larger festivals, all parents can find a way to engage with the PFO.  It is a good point to begin networking with the wider HKIS community.
