PARENTS HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO BE INVOLVED IN THE HKIS COMMUNITY
One of the core values of HKIS is that “together, parents, faculty, staff, and students create the conditions for children’s success and a healthy lifestyle”. HKIS partners with parents in many ways. Each division holds a Back-to-School Night at the beginning of the year, hosts Parent Coffees throughout the year and has Parent/Teacher Conferences each semester. Communications are sent home regularly through divisional newsletters, classroom or cluster newsletters, emails by faculty and a regularly updated community website.

- Parent Advisory Group
- Chinese Studies Parent Committee (CSPC)
The Parent Faculty Organization supports the school, fosters partnership between school and home, builds a sense of community, and raises funds for school-related purposes. The PFO is composed of parents, staff and faculty volunteers from all schools within HKIS. In addition to providing 1-1 mentoring for new families, it sponsors major community building and fundraising events including the Pumpkin Festival, Chinese New Year festivities and the World’s Fair. The PFO also organizes book fairs in all four schools, programs for new parents, Back to School Nights and grade level coffee/meetings twice a year. The funds raised by the PFO help support many activities, including scholarships and the purchasing of resources for the school specifically requested by faculty, parents and students.
The HKIS Booster Club, a volunteer run organization since 1994, operates and manages the Dragon Shop, and has a mandate to boost school spirit. The Dragon Shop is an on-campus store that offers school uniforms, stationery items, giftware and school spirit items. Income earned through sales is given back to the school through donations to HKIS athletic and co-curricular programs.
The Annual Fund Committee (AFC) is a HKIS parent committee established to aid the Advancement Department of HKIS. We were launched officially in August 2016 with the aim of building awareness of the Annual Fund and its importance to the operating budget of the school. Our goal is also to increase participation in HKIS community events and fund-raising initiatives.
Each school has a Parent Advisory Group (PAG) to provide a structured avenue for parental input. PAG members serve in an advisory capacity to divisional administrative teams concerning a variety of issues. Members also provide a parental perspective on such topics as homework, parent nights and transitions between grade levels.
The goal of the Chinese Studies Parent Committee is to create a dialog between parents, the Chinese Studies department and schoolwide administration to improve the communication to our community on our program, provide feedback, and to foster excitement about Chinese language and culture.
