What We Do

What We Do

The main focus of the PFO is community building. We host many events and programs throughout the year that bring together all HKIS families (new and established), teachers, staff, and administration. Along the way we also raise funds that are 100% donated back to the school to enrich the learning experience for our children in the form of funding for special projects and activities that support the HKIS Mission Statement and Student Learning Results.

Welcoming New Families

The PFO offers support to those new to the HKIS community in many ways throughout the year to ease the transition to a new school, and in some cases, Hong Kong. Take a look at the opportunities available to our new families and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions at any time.

New Family Meet and Greet

This event is held at the beginning of each school year. It is an opportunity for new families to come to campus and get to know the community and to meet new friends! This is a casual, drop-in event for the entire family. There will be games and activities for the children and tours of the school.

New Parent Breakfast/Luncheon

At the start of each term the PFO hosts a breakfast or lunch to provide new parents with an introduction to the tools, resources, school groups, and organizations available at HKIS. It is also another great opportunity to meet other new and established HKIS parents.

New Family Mentor Program
To help welcome new families into the HKIS community, the PFO has established a mentor program which pairs them with an existing HKIS family. Some families entering the school appreciate this mentor as an email point of contact for questions, while others are new to Hong Kong and enjoy a coffee or lunch after they arrive. It is up to you on how you would like to utilize it but over the year this program has proven to be an excellent resource and support for new families.

Back to School

Back to School Nights

Held at the start of the school year, this event is an opportunity for parents to learn more about their child's classroom program/curriculum, schedule and routines, teacher, and to meet other parents in their child's class. The PFO provides the food for this event.

Walkabouts

The PFO organizes a series of Walkabouts each year. Whether you are new to Hong Kong and in need of a bit of help getting familiar with the city or have been here a while and want to get out of your comfort zone, this could be for you! Groups will be small and focused on visiting certain areas, buildings and shops.

Community Events & Fundraisers

The PFO hosts major events during the year where the HKIS community comes together to celebrate!

Pumpkin Festival

October brings the first big event and fundraiser of the year as the HKIS Middle School campus is transformed into a Halloween Wonderland. This is one of our most popular events of the year complete with games and prizes for the kids, student-led entertainment, a fangtastic book sale, a delicious bake sale, a one of a kind shopping Boo-tique, a fall market, student charity expo, and plenty of food and refreshments provided by our many sponsors. This truly is fun for the entire family.

World's Fair
Taking place in April, the World's Fair is a spectacular event for the whole family. Hosted at the High School campus, there are many activities, games, food booths hosted by HKIS families (always a favorite!), a vast shopping village from merchants all over Hong Kong, student-led entertainment - and so much more! This event not only fosters community bonding but it is also a major fundraising event.

Giving Thanks

Teacher Appreciation

The PFO and the entire HKIS community are truly thankful to all of our teachers and staff for their dedication and commitment to our children. “Tea, Treats and Sweets” in the fall and “Teacher Appreciation Week” in the spring are two events the PFO sponsors that enables the community to show their appreciation for the tremendous efforts put forth by the teachers and staff at HKIS everyday.

"We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude."
- Cynthia Ozick

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Assemblies

A fabulous show of Chinese culture and celebration welcoming in the new lunar year! Students enjoy entertaining performances including fancy costumes, Kung-Fu, a lucky lion dance, and more.

CNY Logo Design Competition

Each year the PFO hosts a design competition for the HKIS Chinese New Year logo. The winning designs will be used in the commemorative Chinese New Year (CNY) memorabilia. These items will be available for sale to the HKIS community. This competition is open to all HKIS Middle and High School students.

CNY Commemorative Apparel

The winning CNY logo will be featured on clothing items including uniforms approved for LP/UP and MS use and t-shirts and track jackets in all sizes that are fun for everyone, including our younger students, HS students, and adults (parents, alumni, teachers, faculty and friends of HKIS). These items are only available for sale once per year and for a limited time so look out for the details on the divisional newsletters!

Book Fairs

Held annually for each division, local bookshops, such as Bookazine and Swindon Books, will have an array of popular fiction and non-fiction titles to choose from. This is a terrific opportunity to shop for books with your children and select books that they will enjoy reading.

Divisional Allocations

Teachers, Faculty, Administration - Have an HKIS project that needs funding? Complete and submit this form for PFO funding consideration. To read more about the process, click here.

The Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) Constitution states that the projects funded by the PFO through the PFO Divisional Allocation Process must support the HKIS Student Learning Results (SLRs).

The PFO seeks to build and support the HKIS Community school-wide and within divisions, while remaining mindful of the HKIS Student Learning Results, Mission Statement and Vision. Our goal is to provide funding for programs, preferably across the entire division, that help strengthen the HKIS Community and enhance the student learning experience in a broad and meaningful way.
