HKIS TUITION & FEES

The fees involved in applying for a place at Hong Kong International School and subsequent entry to the appropriate School Division and entry-level, include the following: Application Fee, Entry Fee, Annual Tuition Fee and Annual Capital Levy.

Application Fee

An application fee payment of HK$2,000 or US$265 for each applicant must accompany the application.

Payments can be made by credit card via the online application.

Applications made via hard copy can be accompanied by check made payable to Hong Kong International School for HK$2,000 or US$265.

Acceptances are based on student space availability at the time of the student’s intended enrollment.

Tuition Fees

Total Annual Fee for all entry levels for the 2018-19 school-year is shown in the following table.

Payment of the Total Annual Fee is made in two installments.

Please Note: New students will be billed an additional one-time Entry Fee of HK$15,000.


Reservation Deposit

A Reservation Deposit equal to the student's initial semester fees (includes Tuition, Capital Levy and Entry Fee) is required at the time of acceptance.

This Reservation Deposit is credited to the total annual school fee amount. Payment of the Reservation Deposit may be made in U.S. dollars for families residing outside of Hong Kong. Enrollment becomes final only after the school has received the Reservation Deposit.

The Reservation Deposit for new students are only refunded if the school receives written notification of a student’s cancellation within 10 calendar days after the payment due date but before the student starts attending school. This deadline is strictly adhered to.

The Reservation Deposit paid each semester is not transferable to another student, sibling or semester.

NOTE: The Entry Fee of HK$15,000 is a ‘once only’ fee for New Students, and is not charged in subsequent annual fees. This entry fee is not applicable to a student returning within 2 years.


Capital Levy

All students participate in the school’s capital funding by paying an annual capital levy of HK$18,500 which is payable in two installments.


1:1 Laptop Program

HKIS students participate in a Bring Your Own MacBook (BYOM) Program. All Grade 6 to 12 students are required to bring an Apple Macintosh laptop to school each day.

Students will also require access to a personal Apple ID to keep software up to date.

The Apple Macintosh laptop must meet the following HKIS minimum laptop specifications:

  • 1.3 GHz i5 chipset
  • 8 GB RAM memory
  • 256 GB solid state memory
  • High Sierra operating system, 10.13.3
  • USB A port (if required, purchase an Apple USB-C to USB adapter)

Integral to our curriculum are the Mandatory Outdoor Programs, which are required for all students in Grades 6 to 12.

Payment Due Dates

The Reservation Deposit refers to Tuition Fee and Capital Levy. (Please note that an additional once only Entry Fee is also payable for new students).

(a) Parents are held fully responsible for payment of the Reservation Deposit, regardless if the deposit is paid by their employers or other third party.

(b) Reservation Deposit paid is not transferable to another student, sibling or semester.

(c) Any over-payments will be credited towards the next semester Reservation Deposit.

(d) Middle School PEAK and High School Interim fees are invoiced separately and are not payable on the dates noted above.

By Direct Debit Authorization (DDA) - (available only to existing students)
  1. DDA can be made without any service charge. Complete a DDA form, which can be found at the bottom of this page. Note that DDA applications take approximately 4 weeks to process.
  2. Forward the signed DDA form directly to the HKIS Finance Office for processing – please do NOT submit it to your own bank. The Office address is at the bottom of this Payment Methods section.
  3. Your designated bank account will be automatically debited for the total amount due on the due date shown on the invoice.
  4. An administration charge of HK$250 will apply if your designated bank returns the direct debit.
By Check

Please issue a check payable to ‘Hong Kong International School’ and mail with the remittance portion of your invoice/statement to the HKIS Finance Office, 700 Tai Tam Reservoir Road, Tai Tam, Hong Kong. A single check may be issued for more than one student. An administration charge of HK$150 will apply if your check is returned by the bank.

To avoid postal delay, please deposit your check to HKIS Citibank HKD a/c 391-17775795 and email the bank deposit slip to the HKIS Finance Office () noting the student name and number. Please request the bank cashier to input the student number when you deposit the check.

Debenture

Parents and Sponsors may also participate by purchasing a non-interest bearing debenture of HK$2,000,000. Debentures are NOT mandatory.

Debentures are currently fully subscribed. However, you may contact Jean Yong at to be placed on a waiting list, or for further information.

A corporate debenture holder is entitled to nominate one child of their employee for a priority place provided the child satisfies the school’s pre-entry qualifications.

A family debenture holder is entitled to nominate his or her child for a priority place provided the child satisfies the school’s pre-entry qualifications.

To receive top priority of admission, applications supported with a debenture must be received 90 days before the start of a semester and, pending necessary qualification, will be offered a place. However, applications supported with a debenture which are received outside the 90 day limit, will receive top priority but be placed in the wait pool and, pending qualification, will be offered a place when one becomes available.

Refund Policy

Reservation Deposit Refund (only for existing students)

Refunds of 2018-19 Reservation Deposit may be provided upon receipt of BOTH of the following:

  1. A written withdrawal notification to the HKIS Office of Admissions (), and
  2. A written request for a refund to the HKIS Finance Office ()


Note:

a) Written refund requests must be delivered to HKIS on or before the end of the HKIS fiscal school year (i.e. July 31, 2019).
b) These refund deadlines are not applicable to Out of School Activity costs.

Reservation Deposit Refund (only for new students)

A full refund of 2018-19 Reservation Deposit may be provided if written withdrawal and refund request notification is received within 10 calendar days after the payment due date, but before the student starts attending school.

After this date, no refund will be provided. This deadline is strictly adhered to.

Note: Middle School PEAK and High School Interim fees are invoiced separately and are not payable according to this deadline. The above refund policy is not applicable to these fees.

Written notification is required as follows:

  1. A written withdrawal notification to the HKIS Office of Admissions (), and
  2. A written request for a refund to the HKIS Finance Office ()
