Overview
Day 1: Language for Understanding Words and Text (New Morphology Resource – Coming Soon!)Be one of the first to learn about concepts from the NEW resource coming out from UFLI. In this workshop, participants learn essential background knowledge of language and their role in reading development. Topics will include a range of language components, as well as strategies for assessment and instruction. Presenters will share a variety of resources to promote language skills. Speakers
Holly Lane
Holly Lane, Ph.D., is a professor of special education at the University of Florida and the founding director of the UF Literacy Institute (UFLI). Dr. Lane's research focuses on literacy, particularly the prevention of reading difficulties through effective early instruction. Her work also examines the remediation of literacy skills for students with dyslexia, as well as methods for helping preservice and practicing teachers develop the knowledge and skills they need to be effective reading teachers and interventionists. Lane is the author of UFLI Foundations: An Explicit and Systematic Phonics Program, which is being used in more than 100 countries.
Stefanie Mcleod
Stefanie McLeod joined team UFLI in 2022, following 15 years in the public school system in Alachua County, FL. As the UFLI Implementation Coordinator, she works collaboratively with her team to conduct UFLI training across the US and beyond. Additionally, she works directly with school and district leaders to ensure implementation fidelity and long-term sustainability. As a former instructional coach, she believes systems are the key to sustainable improved outcomes because every child deserves high-quality literacy instruction.
Christina Giddings
Christina Giddings joined team UFLI in 2022 as an Implementation Specialist. Prior to joining team UFLI, she taught kindergarten and first grade in Alachua County, FL. In her current role, she delivers professional development to teachers, schools, and districts across the U.S. and beyond.
