At HKIS, Play is a natural and authentic way for your child to make sense of and learn about the world around them. It allows her the opportunity to be an inquirer and ask questions. He can follow his interests and passions and increase his motivation to learn. When children play, it leads to meaningful and natural collaboration. Children learn how to negotiate relationships. They take turns, share, and communicate ideas to understand others.
Your child will be able to shift their thinking to look at alternative ways to face a challenge. Being playful and learning through play allows them to naturally apply flexible thinking to solve a problem. At Lower Primary, students are inspired to learn. The end result is a love of learning and a love for school.

%Arrival time at HKIS Lower Primary is a special moment each day, as your child gets off the bus and is greeted by an administrator or teacher. The Repulse Bay campus has a mandatory bus policy. Students must register with our bus provider, Kwoon Chung Motors. There are dozens of bus routes all across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. You’ll see students in uniform, which can be purchased at the Dragon Shop. See the Uniform Guide!
Each morning begins with a morning meeting to build community in the classroom. Core subjects such as math, literacy, religion, and science are taught by your child's homeroom teacher. Students travel to bespoke learning spaces for specialized subjects, such as Chinese, art, music, library, and PE. Students are given brain breaks throughout the day and time to spend as a community during recess, snack time, lunch, and guided play. See a sample 6-day schedule.
Students eat their lunch in the school cafeteria on the 2/F across from the library and the Wonder Lab. Children may bring their own lunch or order pre-purchased meals from our food provider, Sodexo.
Reception 1 and 2 students finish the day at 1:50 pm and return home on their school bus. We don’t recommend students at this age to have too many scheduled activities after school. The end of the school day is best spent with unstructured play at home, reading with a parent, and allowing their learning for the day to settle in.
Grade 1 and 2 students finish the day at 2:50 pm and are offered a number of activities in our paid after-school activities (ASA) program. A second set of buses is available at 4 pm to take students home after their activity. HKIS offers over 11 types of programs through in-house and third-party providers ranging from sports, performing and visual arts, service & spirituality, S.T.E.M, and more.
