Statement from HKIS
As an international school with an American curriculum, we watch closely the events in the U.S. and around the world with deep concern, and our hearts are burdened. Our Mission and Vision remind us to open our hearts to compassion and to understand complicated global issues, all from our grounding in the Christian faith. It's from this position that we call on every member of our community to join us in condemning racism. We must foster an inclusive community, where all of our members feel safe and valued. We stand with the Black community and the fight for equality, justice, and love. With the aim to teach our children to be open-minded, to have empathy, and to embrace diversity, we endeavor to lay the foundation for individuals who are better equipped to address the tensions of racial injustice. We recognize the privilege our community experiences and commit to do more—to confront racism and to be an upstander rather than a bystander. As a community, we remain committed to examining the way our values are reflected at our school; in our curriculum and in the resources we provide our teachers, parents, and students to better understand systemic racism.
