Overview

In Asian international schools, cultural diversity is a strength and  daily reality. Yet many belonging efforts rely on Western, and often U.S.-based, frameworks that may not align with the intercultural realities of international communities. This evidence-based workshop examines how both Eastern and Western cultural norms shape experiences of belonging, and why intercultural competency is essential for building inclusive, mission-aligned schools. It also explores how students navigate identity-informed harm when aspects of their background are misunderstood or minimized. Grounded in Dr. Derrick Gay’s Fostering Cultures of Dignity and Respect, along with research and best practices specific to international schools, equips participants with practical tools to foster inclusive schools where all members feel valued, while preparing students to thrive as empathetic, informed global citizens.
