Speaker Biography
Dr. Kofi J. S. Gbolonyo is a Ghanaian scholar and performer who teaches ethnomusicology at the University of British Columbia, where he directs the African Music and Dance Ensemble. He is also an internationally recognized Orff-Schulwerk educator and leads the Orff-Afrique Master Class affiliated with the San Francisco International Orff Course. Kofi is also the founding director of Nunya Academy in Dzodze, Ghana.
Kofi specializes in West African traditional music and dance, with expertise in Ewe culture, indigenous knowledge, drumming, choral traditions, and multicultural music education. A dynamic clinician, he leads workshops worldwide and is known for his engaging, hands-on approach that inspires and challenges students of all ages.
