Dates: March 4 to March 8
Welcome to Hong Kong International School for the APAC Theatre Festival
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the APAC Theatre Festival, hosted here in Hong Kong from March 4–8, and shared with our six APAC schools—HKIS, Brent, UNIS, SFS, ISB, and SAS Pudong—for a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.
This year’s festival theme, “United: One Community, Many Voices,” beautifully captures what makes theatre, and APAC, so powerful. Theatre reminds us that while our stories, cultures, and perspectives may differ, they are strongest when shared. Each voice matters. Each role contributes. Together, we create something far greater than any single performance.
That idea resonates deeply with our HKIS school-year theme, drawn from 1 Corinthians 12, which speaks of one body made up of many parts—each different, each essential. The arts, and theatre in particular, bring this truth to life in a tangible way. Onstage and off, students learn that collaboration, empathy, and trust are not optional extras; they are the foundation of meaningful work and authentic community.
On a personal note, the arts have shaped who I am. As a former thespian, I experienced firsthand how theatre can give young people confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging. The rehearsal room was a place where I learned to listen, to take risks, to fail safely, and to grow. Long after the curtain closed, those lessons stayed with me. In a world that often feels divided and fast-paced, the arts remain one of our most powerful tools for connection, reflection, and understanding.
We are especially grateful to welcome our visiting guest artists from D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective, whose work and mentorship will enrich this experience for students and educators alike. Their presence reinforces the spirit of shared learning that defines APAC at its best.
To all the students, directors, educators, and supporters who make this festival possible, we say a great big THANK YOU. May this week be filled with bold storytelling, generous collaboration, and moments that remind us why the arts matter so deeply in our schools and in our world.
